This month, the CNC has information on the television consumption patterns of Colombians based on the observation of more than 280,000 households in the sample. With a reach of 43 million people, we can safely say that Colombians are watching.
Of Colombians, 36% have access to open television, which is mainly associated with national channels. Among these, Canal Caracol stands out with a rating of 7.21 and Canal RCN with a rating of 3.26. The largest number of active people watch at 8:00 p.m. with an average rating of 37.32 corresponding to 5.8 million Colombians.
On the other hand, 64% of the population (in people) has closed television, so they have access to a greater number of channels. Canal Caracol and Canal RCN maintain their relevance with ratings of 2.97 and 1.42 respectively. Although the highest rating is 26.83 at 8:00 p.m., this represents 7.9 million viewers.
In Colombia, household ratings by region are even, with an average of 17.00 rating for each region. The region with the highest rating is the Central region with 18.12 and the lowest rating is in the Caribbean with 15.82.
People's behavior is similar to that previously observed. This means that audience peaks continue to occur at the same times. In the 'Morning' slot (12:00 a.m. – 5:59 a.m.) the audience begins to increase around 4:00 a.m., reaching its maximum just before changing slots. Immediately after comes the ' slot (6:00 a.m. – 11:59 a.m.) which reaches a rating of 8.69 at 9:00 a.m. The next increase in consumption occurs at 1:00 p.m. in the ‘Early’ slot (12:00 p.m. – 6:59 p.m.). Finally, the highest rating of 30.62 is seen at 8:00 p.m. within the prime time slot that goes from 7:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. From this point on, the number of people tuned in decreases during the night until the next day.
National Channels
At the national level, the most watched channels are Caracol, RCN and Canal 1. Caracol has a share of 63.84%, which places it in a strong dominance over the other national channels. RCN follows with a share of 28.18% and Canal 1 only achieves 2.42%. One of the reasons is the behavior that occurs during the day, while Canal Caracol has several moments of high viewing, the other channels depend mainly on prime time. The number of people watching more or less follows the behaviour by time slots described above.
International Channels
On international channels the behaviour is different, although it also increases during the day. The three channels with the highest share in the last week are Cliente Claro, CityTV and ESPN. The distribution of the share is less uneven than on national channels, with Cliente Claro achieving only 11.11%. CityTV and ESPN follow with 10.29% and 5.27% respectively. Unlike national channels, the audience for these programmes has varied behaviour. Claro has an audience that increases during the day. CityTV has moments of very high ratings followed quickly by lower ratings.
Below is the number of people watching television for each hour, broken down by national and international channels.
In prime time, the highest-rated programs are presented on Canal Caracol and Canal RCN. Among these, Caracol Noticias and several news programs such as El Rastro and Los Informantes stand out. There are also reality and competition programs such as Masterchef and La Descarga. The only telenovela that appears among the top 10 in ratings is Yo Soy Betty La Fea with a rating of 9.93.
The analysis of the new universe reveals a continuation of previous behaviors in terms of active viewers per time slot. In addition, it is possible to determine the characteristics of the public according to the type of television they own. In both cases, the prevalence of national channels and mainly news programs is maintained. It is relevant to take into account the interest in other news programs and competition programs to offer interesting programming.
